Mr. and Mrs. J. Frank Arnett leave today to attend the Inter- iiattoiial Rotary convention in lParis. France. and they will be in London for the coronation. They will be Joined in New York by Mrs. Arnett'a sister, Mrs. E. C. Blundcll of Hudson, Wisconsin.

They will sail from New York on the liner Italia on May 8 and plan to spend ten days in Lon-' don before going to France. Af- ter the convention they will re- turn to London Just. in time for the coronation and following this memorable occasion will spend some time visiting in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

They will sail from Southamp- ton for home on June 24 and will arrive here during the first week in July.-B

Hughes, 148 Prince Street, in his 37th yepir. Mr. Hughes had been a patient in the Prince Edward Is- land llospital for the past. three

weeks. A native of fieorgetowii. where he was born June 26. 1856, the

late Mr. Hughes attended school there before coming to the city to take a course in the Commercial College. While he was only 15 he took up the study of the work of ii, telegraph operator. He was Island operator of the first submarine telegraph cable ever laid in North Anierica across the Northumber-l land Stiait to what is now Cape Traverse. That. was in 1872 and the other end of the cable was in Cape Torineiiiine in New Brunswick.

Dr. G. D. Steel. president of the Prince Edward Island Musical Festival Association, in speaking at the official opening last even- ing at Prince of Wales College Auditorium of the eighth annual festival, commented that "music has become an integral part of the daily program in many of our schools.” and went on to say that he felt the time had come to have a director or supervisor of

rectors, and said that he thought if the practice were followed here, regional festivals might be con- sidercd.

Serious consideration was given to thc pcssiblllty of extending the section of the building in which- the auditorium is located. The plan that appeared most adequate for the immediate need would provide eight new classrooms.

A committee was appointed to meet with the Suiiimerside Town Council in connection with the need for more classroom facili- ties at the High School.(S.

Criminal Code and the l,-fizliwa,v' Traffic Act Magistrate Joseph W-l MacDonald yesterday drew at- tention to the following amend- ment to the Provliiclal Act pass- ed in 1952 and IllI't.l18l' amend- ed in 1953. Sec. 85 :3) reads: "The license of a person who is convicted of driving a motor vehicle while his ability to drive is impaired by alcohol or any drug shall. forthwith upon and automa- tlcally with such conviction, be suspended for three months. and for I second siibsequeiit convic- tion be suspended for a. term of twelve months."

Potato movement from Prince Edward Island was very heavy all during the moiitii of April with l.342 carloads moving by rail, and during the last week substantial quantities have been moving by truck and boat as well, reports Mr. D. A. Mac-Donald, manager of the Potato Marketing Board. Accord- ing to shipping records available over 9,500 carloads of 750 bushels each have left this Province since last August. While it is difficult to accurately appraise what stock is, left to be shipped it is generally be- lieved that if present volume of movement can be continued for an- other month supplies will be pretty well cleaned up.
