Tue Toronto Globe's London cable says :— The Privy Council has agreed to rescind the new rule with respect to landing live cattle in the United Kingdom The regulation was that no cattle could be landed alive from the vessel which within thirty days had touched at a schedule port. This would have seriously affected the ‘‘anadian live cxttle trade, as a large proportion of vessels call at Boston or Portland. Various representations had been made to the authorities here, and the first Canadian cargo coming within the operation of the rule was treated exceptionally and allowed to be landed.

He was sent out by an English firm to St. John, N. B., in 1875, to superintend the buildin of the Jas. Kenway, and bas since saile her, She wasa superior vesse! having cost £40,000. }

SM ALLPox.—Another case has developed in the house of James Nunn, Winsloe Road. The vietim is the wife of Mr. Nunn. As she was vaccinated when young, it is thought the attack will be mild. Her husband has sufli- ciently recovered to be able to nurse the patient. * Two children of the Gillan family exhibit premonitory symptoms of the disease. They have been vaccinated. . Che cases at Fort Augnstus are all progressing favorably. A number of the resi- dents of Fort Augustus and Scotchfort have been vaccinated and the remainder will be attended to by Dr Jenkins, who will make « tour of both] places to-morrow. * * * Dr. Jenkins expects to hand the Hospital over to the Government to-morrow.

Tur Truro Guardian says: While Mr, Alex Boneyman, of West Tatamogouche, was chopping in the woods, on Friday afternoon iast, about a mile and a half from bis home, he nxt with a most pa’nful accident. Mr. Boneyman had been clearing a new, road through the woods, and while in the act of

chopping a tree, ,it fell upen hw, falling across his leg, in which position he was forced to remvpn

After snfforing intense agony, Mr. Honeyman at Jast extricated himself from his perilous position and began crawling on his hands and knees for a distance of one mile until at last his shouts were heard and assist- ance arrived. A TYPE SETTING tournament began at a Chicago Musevwm on the 11th inst., which is to continue for one week. The contest- ants are Joseph McCann, of the New York Herald, the present champion; W. C. Barnes, of the New York Wor/d; and Joseph M. Hudson, W. J. Creevy, Leo Nonheimer, ‘‘Kid” Dejarnott and Thor, C. Levy, of Chicago. Tae force is divided into two squads, and will set one hour and a-half each afternoon and evening for a week, making three hours each day.
