The First Snow

Yesterday the road was brown,

The grass was green all over town. Yesterday there was no snow

But as you know the colors must go. Today the earth is covered white,

The sun still shines but not as bright. I shall miss the autumn colors

But soon again there shall be flowers.

NEXT MEETING

Date: Tuesday, December 2, l975

Time: 8 p.m.

Place: Provincial Health Building, 3rd Floor, Room #7 and #8. (Enter through the garage on west side of the Provincial Administrative Building).

Program: Rosemary Curley from the P.E.|. Fish and Wildlife Division has been con- ducting research on red foxes on P.E.|. for the last two years. Rosemary is interested in a wide variety of topics related to the natural environ- ment. She has written discourses on the status of walruses, black rabbits and Chinese geese on P.E.|. and has made preliminary investigations in building a mountain on P.E.|. However, for the December meeting, she plans to confine her talk to her research on foxes.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Winds of Sea and Wood

The first publication of our Society's, “Winds of Sea and Wood", is at the press. This no page book was written and illustrated by Natural History Society members and edited by Kathy Martin. The book ls dedicated to Harvey Moore from Milltown Cross who spent most of his life observing and caring for wildlife. The Natural History Society is pleased to have the opportunity to honor this great naturalist.

There is a possibility the book will be completed by the December 2 meeting. If 50, Dorothy Neilson, widow of the late Harvey Moore, will be present to receive the first official copy. All those who submitted illustrations for “Winds of Sea and Wood” will receive a complimentary copy and the book will be on sale for the general membership. Members are urged to take as many copies on consignment as they feel they could sell. It will make a great Christmas gift!

Natural History Display

We plan to have a display of available literature on natural history for P.E.|. at the Royalty and Charlottetown Malls on December 12 - l3 and 19 - 20. We would be selling “Winds of Sea and Wood” and memberships to the Society as well as "Our Adventures at Warren Grove“. If you can spare a morning, afternoon or evening,

please volunteer at the December meeting or c0ntact one of the executive. Hopefully some of our young naturalists will help us as well.

Committees

Two committees must be appointed at the December meeting:

I. A nominating committee to bring in a slate of officers for l976; 2. An auditing committee.
