Overproducticn and not competi- tion is the cause of reduction in the price of Pennsylvania Grade Crude Oil to $2.50 a barrel. as a result of u scrics of cuts in the last year. ac- cording to an official statement from Mr. Fcrrcstb. Dom. pi ident of the Pennsylvania Grade Crude Oil Association.

“At no time." said Mr. Dom. "have: reductions in the prices of Pennsyl- vania oil represented any attempt at price adjustment to meet competi- tion from any niidcontincnt oil, as asserted in published statements. Pennsylvania oil is in a class by lt- self. It has a definite market since it is the richest in lubricant content of any oils produced and it. is used by refiners interested in thc manil- fncturc of the highest grade motor oils. Mid-continent and other crudes are primarily gasoline oils with a relatively low content of lubricants.

“The outstanding success of water flooding and oilicr improved‘ repres- suring methods in the Pennsylvania field in producingoil in great quant- ities from territory which had been considered practically played out. at- tracted the attention of the entire oil industry. INSTITUTE WORK-I'm regular meeting of the st. Georges ‘Women's Institute took place at the home of Mrs. James H. MacDonald on Friday. April 25th. The meeting opened with the singing of the Ode. followed by roll call, which was answered with gardening hints. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and ap- proved. A paper from the Rcd Cross advising the innoculation of the children from diphtheria was read. After some discussion it was decided to have the children atiend clinic. The school committee reported school in good condition. Sick committee reported visiting Iick lnidistrictzand bringing fruit. A reading by Miss Catharine McKinnon and a recita- tion by Miss Mary E. McConnac was much appreciated by all present. The singing of ‘the National Anthem brought the meeting to a close‘, after which a game of whist took place. prius being won by Margaret Mor- rarty and Marcellus Campbell. A so- cial hour was then spent. during which supper was served by the hostess and her daughters. A vote of thanks tendered her for her hos- pitality brought a pleasantly spent evening to a close.

ALFRED E. COFFIN

The many relatives and friends Alfred E. Coffin-were saddened when they learned of his death which oc- curred at his home in Vancouver. B. C.. February 12. 1830.

Mr. Coffin was a man of real worth. friendly. generous. and cheerful. was the third son of the late A. Nathan- iel Coflin and Annabell Shaw Doug- las. Head of l-llilsboro. P. lL‘. I. The deceascds eldest brother and young- est sister predeceased him within the last sixteen months. namely David D. Coffin, Head of Hillsboro, and Mrs. Douglas MacBwen. Charlottetown; Those surviving to mourn their loss are: Mrs. mime. L. Douglas. Head of Hlllsboro; J. Leonard Coffin, Prcsque Llle. Maine; Mrs. Catherine Doug- las. Dorchcster. Mass; and D. Henry Coffin. Cherry Hill. P. E. Island.

The late Alfred Coffin left home at an early age. his father being acci- dentally killod when he was only 12 years of we. His mother left‘ with the care of seven children. the youngest only two years. At that time the Rev. W. ll. Frame had bccn inducted into the Congregation of Mt. Stewart and West St. Peters. and when visiting the widowed mother

In 1911 Mr. Coffin with his wife and son Fred visited his old home at Head of Hilisboro. P. E. Island where a family reunion was held and where he renewed many old Jrlend- ships. Hi5 aged mother passed away a few months after his visit it the age of a0. The late Mr. Coflin was 60. had been in failing health for some years. was tenderly cared for by his noble and devoted wife who survives him. also two sons-Charlie and Fred. and two grandchildren all of Van- couver. 13-0.. to mourn his losa

The remains were laid to rust in the Masonic Cemetery. Vancouver: funeral services were held under the auspices of the Mt. Vernon Lodge. A. F. d: A. M. of which the deceased was a valued member.
