Queen’s Birthday is the popular picpicing, and the early morviug saw several crowds gssembled at different points, all antici-

pating a day's fun either in the country or at the seaside. Probably the largest and moat jovial of these g atherings was carried by the well-known steamer William Ait- ken, which started from Pownal Wharf at 19.39, a.m., and took the excarsionists to West River Bridge. On the retura, at about 8.30, p. m., the Aitken steamed a short distance into the bay and then turning made slowly for her wharf fairly ablaze with all kinds of fireworks, attracting the attention of the hoate in the harbor and drawing a large

crowd tothe wharf. Atthe landing, God Save the Queen was eung with a sincerity and gusto, which thrilled the listeners, nad certainly made a most fitting finale to one of the pleasantest days of the year.

The excursion to New Glasgow, N.S. was attended by about two hundred people, snd was a success from every point of view. The Princess left the wharf at7 o’clock in the morning and returned about

[9 o'clock at night. The sail to and from Pictou Landing was exceedingly pleasant, enlivened as it was by music and the tripping of the light fantastic toe.

VENEZULEAN BOUNDARY.

The Board of Arbitration to Meet in Paris in February.

Wasuincton, May 24.—The tribunal which is to adjast the dispute between Venezuela and Great Britain as tothe houndarv between the former country and British Guiana will assemble in Paris next February. The claims of both couatries are now being made up. The case of Venezuela was laid before the members of ibe tribunal on March 16 last, avd vhe counter-claims of Great Britain will be presented July 13. The personnel of the tri- bunal was determined by the treaty of Washington in 1897, Chief Justice Fuller and Assistant Chief Justice Brewer, of the Supreme Court,beipg elected by Venezuela \o reprereot her interests. They and the two representatives of Great Britain have chcs- en, in accordance with the terme of the treaty, the fifth member of the tribunal in the persou of M de Mertenes, the eminent authcr.ty on international law, and chief councillor of the Russian Foreign Office.
