Father McKonna was born near Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada on April 26. 1334. and received lils early education in schools there and in St. Dun- si.an‘s University, Charlottetown.

Following his academic educa- tion there, he studied philosophy at the Grand seminary Montreal, and then came to Minnesota for his study of theology at the St. Paul seminary in St- Paul.

His ordination took place at the Procathedral of St. Thomas in Winona on January 3, 1913. virith Bishop Heffron leading in the

ceremonies. The Rev. Father MrKenna‘s first. pastoral service was as as-

sistant priest of Si. John's church in Rochester. yrhcrc he served from January lo September, i913, before being called to the staff oi St. Mary's college at. its opening, his appointment coming frctn Bis- hop l-leffron.

His service with the college ex- tended until November. 191b, when he took over the rector-ate of St. Peter's parish at. Rose Creek.
