The SUN The UPEI SUN is being scrutinized as of late. Both
students and faculty are forming opinions on it. Well -
before anyone starts saying it is a good paper or a bad paper, we think it should be said what the eds itprial staff are trying to achieve.
A student newspaper, in our eyes, is something more than a paper reporting on events and activities on / campus. That type of newspaper is really a newsletter.
What we are trying to‘achieve is a media which not only informs students but stimulates some thought. This can only be done through more than just news stories. '
The paper plans to publish poems, short stories, short essays and anything else a student writes if it would be of interest to the student body. Already in this issue we have published a poem, by Valerie Moore, and a sociological study of rock music, by Callum Beck. '
In past years, Ihg_Cadre was a “student newspaper” only students wrote, worked on, and_organized it.
We believe a student newspaper is called such because it is beneficial for.the students and of course run by students. But it is important to have input
from faculty. We don't believe faculty should be restricted from writing in the paper just because they are faculty. If they have something that will aid student life there is no reason the paper should
not print it.
The 'UPEl '. SUN is a student newspaper. We are doing it for you. All we ask in return is for you to read it and tell us how to improve it.
