The ealrly days of the ‘Canadian Pacific Railway. l‘t l5 precisely the position which con- fronted substantially every railway system which was built in the tin- developed parts of the United States after the Civil War.‘ Many of those railway systems have passed through one or ‘more rt‘- ceiversblps, which necessarily in- volved a considerable writing down of outstanding dbligaltions, with n restilting loss ‘to investors, whicii has not ‘been applied to the Cann- diun National Rlallway system.
