Make ‘Bid For Fresh Ideas

OTTAWA (CP) —- The Pro- gressive Conservative party is looking for ideas which are both progressive and conservative.

A call has gone out from party headquarters here to 5.- 000 workers across the country

The suggestions, in the form’

of resolutions passed by local groups. will be studied by two committees scheduled to meet here Dec. 15 in preparation for the party's annual meetin which is to take place in Ottawa Jan. 16 and 19.

Both the senior party organi- zation, and groups in the wom- en's. youth and ‘university or- ganizations. are being c an- vrssed. ’

About 1,500 delegates and as many alternates, guests and ob- servers are expected to be ac- credited for the annual meeting.

The platform and constitution committees of the party will meet in advance to collect and collate the resolutions.

While the party hopes to have all local suggestions filed by the Dec. 15 meeting. further meet- ings of the platform and con- stitution committees will be held later for late proposals for the annual mee .

OTTAWA (CP)—-Canadian sei- entists hope that a powerful seismological tool being built in northern Canada will be able to detect almost any kind of underground nuclear explosion set off anywhere in Russia.

The mines and technical sur- veys department has announced that the new sensitive seiamolo- gical array is being developed in co-operation with Britain at a remote site just west Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories. It is expected to be in operation early in December.

“We hope the station will be able to pick up any underground nuclear explosions occurring in Russia." Dr. W. E. van Steeri- burgh. the department's direc- tor-general of scientific serv- ices, said in an interview.

However, Dr. van Steenburgh emphasized that while there was this hope. the seismological array in association with sim- ilar systems elsewhere still re- mained an experiment to deter- mine whether a network could detect nuclear blasts anywhere in the world with complete ac- curacy.
