Pane-Less. —Yesterday afternoon, a dog strayed behind the show window of George Carter & Co’s. grocery store, and, being a believer in rapid transit took the shortest way to the street, first smashing one of the side-lights and then taking part of the front with him.

Aquatic. — Great disappointment. is felt here among boating men owing to a telegram having been received from Pictou to the effect that Carroll and mate would not be prepared to row before three weeks time. This is really too bad, as Collins and McKenna have been actively training, to the neglect of their other avocations, for several days past.

Saovutp se More Carerct.— While a young lad named Charles Weymon, in the employ of Mr. R. MeMillan, Grafton Street, was engaged in fixing a blanket on one of the horses, on Thursday evening last, the animal seized the boy with his teeth and threw him violently to the floor, striking him with his fore feet and injuring him seriously. With great difficulty the lad succeeded in getting clear of the animal, leaving him loose in his stall. This should prove a warning to boys to be a little more careful when around horses, especially stallions.

A., who has labored with much ac- ceptance at Alberton for the past eighteen years, has, as THe Examiner has already in- timated, accepted a call to Campbellton, N. B. On ican evening last his parishioners at Alberton tendered him a farewe!l meeting. At this meeting addresses from the congrega- tion and from the Young People’s Society were presented, and rems.ks highly eulogistic of the rev. gentleman vere made by repre- sentative citizens and fellow-clergymen. To

Wo Is He?—The Mat says that a pecn- liar-looking individual recently visited the Halifax dispensary and asked for a bottle of medicine. He refused to tell what sert of medicine he wished for, who he was, or where he came from. He was promptly removed to te police siation. There he said his name was Walter Davidscn, and that he came from Charlottetown, where they called him *‘ Jack the Ripper.” He also asked that he be trans- ported. Previous to his showing up at the dispensary, he had been an inmate of the Sailors’ Home. Davidson has since been ex- amined by City Medical Officer Trenaman and pronounced demented. He has been gent to the Poors’ Asylum to await instructions from his friends.

Tue Rurtz —The Montreal rifle association, as « grand final of the shooting season, proposes to get up a gigantic telegraphic rifie match between the clubs of the leading cities of Canada, to be fired on Saturday, October 5th, With Martini-Henri rifles, ranges 200, 500 and 690 yards, seven shots at each range,for teams ol twenty men. No sighting shots will be allowed. It is proposed to exchange the range totals by telegraph, also the weather details The names of the teams are to be sent to Mr. Pringle, secretary of the Montreal assoclation,not later than the 29th September. He states that the following have consented to take part: Ottawa, Torente, Montreal,

Tillett, one of the leaders of the recent strixe in London, will probably go to Rot- teriam to-morrow to exercise his influence on behalf of the strikers. He has sent picsets to Torwich, the principal point for the departure of steamers for Rotterdam, who have already stopped many blacklegs on the way to Rotterdam to take the place of the strikers

hu Williams, a well-known Socialist, has been arrested in this city on a charge of intimidating men going to Rotterdam to take the place of the strikers.

Printers Discharged. Orrawa, Sept. 27.

Seventy eight printers were discharged from the Government printing bureau yes- terday, after being six weeks at work, though they were promised steady em- ployment. The men were engaged to work onthe Dominion Voters Lists, but the Tory papers throughout the country have made such an outcry over the loss of pap that the lists have been farmed out to them and the printers discharged.

The Quebec Catastrophe. QueEsEc, Sept. 27.

A new crack or fissure in the rock is visible, and this is supposed to increase the danger of further slides. The inquest on the bodies of the victims was continued yesterday and further adjourned. It is thought by some that the jury may return a verdict against the civil and federal authorities, of manslaughter.
