tricks. First. North had decided to "hang" one trick short of game.

East was that South had bid two notrump instead of doubling the two-club overcall. And East himself. of course. had the major suits well controlled.

The speculative double turned out even better than East hoped when West was inspired to lead the heart ten ,instead or a club. The penalty was then 800 points. On any opening. however, the double would have paid.
