The funeral of Mrs. Louise Ellis of OLeary was held on Tuesday afternoon. Jan. 15th. from the O‘- Leary United Church with inter- ment at Bloomfield United Church Cemetery. The late Mrs. Ellis was 81, of a quiet friendly disposition. She was beloved by all who knew her. The service was conducted by Rev. W. G. Dickson. Prayer was offered by Rev. C. 0. Howlett and the address was given by her Minister, Rev. H. M. Burgess. in which he paid tribute lo her character. At the graveside. Rev Mr. Dickson officiated assisted by Rev. H. M. Burgess.

Mrs. W. G. Dickson entertained at the United Church Manse on Flrlday afltetmooh. Jan. Nth. in honor of her young daughter, Jeanne, who celebrated her eighth birthday. There were over twenty little guests present and all en- joyed an afternoon of sashes and delicious rerfeshments were served by thehostcss, assisted by Mrs. Mae Palmer. The little guest of honor received many little gifts from her friends and good wishes for many more happy birthdays. ‘The centre of attraction on the well laden table was a large and gaily decorated birthday cake with eight candles upon it.

The West Devon United Church Young Peoples Union met on Wed- nesday night. Jan. 26th at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Wood. De- spite the cold nlght. there was an attendance of fourteen young people. The vice president, Miss Shirley Grigg led in an impressive devotional service after which the Study Period was conducted by Mrs. Arthur Graham. Convener of Culture. who was assisted by a number of the young people. Then the ltlinistei- began a systematic study of the Gospel of Mark and the Y.P.U. studied chapter one. The first game of the season played in Augustine Cove rink on Wednesday night saw the Aug- ustine Cove Bulldogs defeat the Borden Abegvreits by die score of l1 to 9. The game was rugged but cleanly played and both teams showed sparkling hockey with the goalies making many brilliant saves.

Saturday evening friends and neighbours gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fldele Peters. Augustine Cove, in honour of their Golden Wedding which they cel- ebrated on Jan. 16th. After a little chatter with the bride and groom and, wishing them many more happy years together. Mr. Donald MacDonald gave a lovely worded address. Mrs, Lorne Carruthers presented the hlililiy couple with a well-filled purse. Taken by sur- prise Mr. Peters thanked every- one on behalf of himself and Mrs. Peters for their lovely gift and good wishes Then Mrs. Aus- tin Cameron was called on to present the bride with a beautiful wedding cake given by Women's Institute. After singing “For They Are Jolly Good Fellows" they all left for their homes, wishing Vlr. and Mrs. Peters many more years together. ‘

On Sunday. Jan. 16th.. Mr_ and Mrs. Fldele Peters. Augustine Cove, celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary. Only part of the family were able to be there. The gift from the family was n lovely table lamp and big wedding cake topped with bride and groom. They were st home to many of their friends from four to five who came to shower them with best wishes After treating their guests with ice cream and cake, they all left wishing them many more years of happiness. At six o'clock n wedding supper was served to all the family.
