To-pay being the anniversary of the De- claration of Independence of the United States, bunting was largely displayed on the Boston steamer Carrol! and over the ~ office of the American Consul in this city.

Tue brig Kitiy Clyde, which was strand- edand partially wrecked at Flat River, Pinnette, in November last, was towed into this harbor from that place by the steamer Heather Belle, this morning. She was for- merly owned in Newfoundland, but was Pt ichencd by Mr. Duncan McRae, after being stranded.

Yesterday I received a circular, issued by Hon. L. H. Davies, Hon. John F. Robertson and Thomas W. Dodd, Esq., requesting my attendance at a Reform meeting, to be held at tie Atheneum. Thomas W. Dodd, Esq., has as much right to append his name to a circular, requesting

members of the Liberal Party to attend a committee meeting as any other man of the Reform Party; but when the

Premier and another member of the Local Government become the election agents of some selfish political clique, then, Sir, as one Reformer, I shall pay no attention to any re- quest to attend meetings of the Party. That Mr. Davies and Mr. Robertson have taken upon themselves to act a3 the representatives of an army of officials, is evident from the

fact that the majority of those pre- sent at the meeting were Railway and Local officials. What right, I ask, has Mr. Davies or Mr. Robertson to dictate to

the Liberal electors of this, county who shall be te candidates for their suffrages at the next Dominion election? Is the same selfish spirit of grabbing oifices for relatives and friends, as has been manifested by Mr. Davies in the past—both in Dominion and Local poli- tics—to obtain in the coming election? Is the same incompetency, as has been shown in the management of Goverument affairs on this Island to be tolerated by the Reformers during the coming campaign? What do they suppose Reform electors are? Do they think we are to be driven to the polls like sheep—to obey the beck and nod of Mr. L. H. Davies, so that ho and his relatives may continue to sip honey from the Government rose. Reform electars of the country, do not submit to the man who forced upon you the Assessment Act. Yours, etc..
