Toronto, Oct. 31.---H. H. Coak yesterday made the following statu tory declaration before H. Gordon, notary public, for the province of Ontario :

‘Having made a statement to the effect that | had been asked by a person acting on behalf of the mem pers of the present Dominion Cab inet, or certain of them, to pay a sum of ten thousand dollars in con sideration of my being appointed a member of the Senace Canada, and this having been called in qres tion, | deem it my duty to make a plain statement to the public of the transaction or attempted transac- tion. lam the moveconvinced that it my duty to do this because. the prime minister, Right Honorable i> Wilfrid Laurier, has, Lam in termed, made a statement which he
