MONCTON, N. 13., Oct. Qi.—(Spg- clan-With hockey in Halifax, Charlottetown and Moncton settled, moguls of the three clubs, in session here yesterday, released their club rosters for the coming season.

Moncton Hawks lead the three teams, comprising the first section of the Maritime Hockey League, in total players, having iimen on their list. Charlottetown is next in line with 13 men and Halifax has an even dozen performers. It is in- teresting to note that Charlottetown and Halifax have listed -two goalere each, while Moncton will depend entirely on blond Jimmy Foster.

Has Three Lines

Halifax has but two defence men, Charlottetown three and the Hawks will have four men trying for beck division berths. Moncton leads the others not only in defence men, but. will also have three sets of for- wards. The Abbies and Wolverinw have eight front liners. ,

In all 30 players are listed on the three rosters for competition in the Maritime circle and these 39 are Iecosuilled as just about the cream of hockey talent in these provin- ces.

The rosters contain no new addi- tions, not previously recorded, but Milnci-Oii. with the transfer of Fos- ter Wooley from Winnipeg pulled a surprise.

With the league opening date set as November 21 and with at least 5W0 Dre-season exhibition tilts, the Maritimes this year will see their hockey commence only a few days later than the National Hockey League.

Development of the British pig industry will not be fully attained for ten years, and in the mean- time theie will be an excellent mar- ket in the Old Country for all the good-quality bacon Canadian farmers can produce.

Mr. Weir stated tonight that a close survey of Canada shows that the farmers who produce the best pigs produce the most pigs and have the smallest fluctuations in their production from year to year. Moreover, experience has shown that over a period of years pig production on a commercial scale has paid.

The Minister added that, in order to stimulate production of the proper kind of pigs for the British bacon trade. experts have been working for a year on a type of bacon pig and the results would be made known to the farmers. "We have been getting loo long a pig." said Mr. Weir. "We want a pig of not such extreme length and with a. deeper side calried back to the flank. Results have shown that type of pig is moio economical to Produce and gives a better yield when dressed."

Mr. Weir also spoke of sow- breeding policies put into effcci, by the Governments-Federal and Provincial-whereby outstanding boars are supplied by the Govern- ments to farmers‘ clubs for the purpose of improving the breed. Hog population in Canada has increased from 2,354,000 in 1901 to 4,717,000 in 1931, and the most not- able increase nas been in the three Western Provinces. '.f‘he"e the hog population rose from 200,000 to 2,391,000 in the thirty year period. What m. An mterscholastio track meet, a fitting close to the numerous sporting» events carried out at the Forum the past season was ob- served last evening when a galaxy of the younger fry strutted their stuff. The large number of en- trants in each event were cheer- ed to the echo by the loyal sup- porters of both schools. West Kent came off with premier honors with a total of 107 points, to 57 for Queen Square.

Enid Irlam carried off the greatest number of points in the girls’ events, while Joe MacDcugal led the boys by winning four firsts for a total of 20 points.

The tricycle races were especial- ly interesting and were thorough- ly enjoyed by a sprinkling of older people present.

At a largenieeting of the Uh- employed Workmerrs Association held last, evening in their hall on Queen Street at which the presi- dent, Mr. Peter Morrison presided, the usual business was proceeded with. Mir. MacFarlane treasurer re- ported for the committee, as fol- lows: dues paid to date $21.50; paid out for relief $20.51, unpaid for tickets $8.35, paid talent at con- cert $24.00, cash in bank $210.18, (grand total $284.54 lus $74.30).

A resolution was passed that a committee interview the govern- ment officials fo: information re- garding the excavating of a drain from Falconwood to phe city water connection.

Bills were reported paid to the total of $135.28.

Brief remarks were made by the committee of the L. P. U. the president and secretary of which attended. It was decided that something must be done at once for the relief of members, as dif- ferent members stated they had been ignored when application had been made to the city for relief. A committee was appointed to look into the matter.

A vote of thanks was tendered the President and membe s of the entertainment committee.

The president, thanked the mem- bers of this committee, and also the president and secretary of the L. P. U. for the manner in which labour was shared on the water- front.

The executive contradicted any rumour that was detrimental to the organization in regard to finan- ces or expenditures... involved in connection with the lastientertain- ment.

The annual meeting of the Char- lottetown Teachers‘ Institute was held yesterday in Rochford Square School. Mr. H. W. Yeo, Chairman, presided. The teachers were ad- dresed by Hon. Dr. W. J. P. Mac- Mlllan, Minister of Education; Mr. H. H. Shaw, Superintendent of Ed- ucation, and Professor L. W. Shaw. B. A., of the P. W. C. staff.

The Chairman in his opening re- marks, referred tc the work of the Institute Executive during the year and dealt briefly with matters still occupying the attention of the Com- mittees. _

The first speaker to address the City teachers was Prof. Shaw, of the Teachers’ Training Department of Prince of Wales College. Prof. Shaw dealt with the problems of teaching geography elucidating his talk by actual demonstration. Rev. H. D. Raymond, Rcv. G. C. Webster and Mr. George Ritchie, came before the meeting on the ‘question of unemployment relief.‘ The first named, acting as speaker, pointed out. that the Federation of Protestant Churches had created an organization to allocate inquir- ers for relief to their respective churches, to record cases of neces- sity, to prevent overlapping of ef- fort, and to provide for the trans- ient needy. There were two classes of relief, family relief and trans- ient relief. To“ make for economy, wholesale buying had been ar- ranged for. A frost-proof ware- house to provide for the storing of vegetables was available. Much was being contributed gratuitously from the country.

A building to provide for trans- lent relief could be procured for about $200 for payment for taxes and necessary alterations. Rest and food supplied to the transients, there would then be opportunity to place the responsibility where it belonged, and steps should be tak- en to transport non-residents to where they came from.

People had always been ready to donate the where-with-all to car- ry out the relief measures and had shown an admirable spirit of co- operation.
