This same Dr. Lettsom oecasion Called to see an old merchant, who had been ruined by the rupture between the colonies and the mother ecouatry. On entering theroom, D:. As a peer, Byron was neither more nor less than an ordinary young lord of the period, of an abnormally passionate temperament, and more troubled than most of his fellows by straitness of means. His differentia was that he cared little about politics in the concrete, hated field sports, and cordially dis- liked the civilization that surrounded him. It was this Bohemianism, rather than any taste for adventure or travel lers impulse, or even such restlessness as tortures the modern “globe-trotter,” that drove him «abroad. He had no classical fervor, no inclination toward science, but he wasa keen student of history, and this latter circumstance in great measure explains his wandering up and down the historic shores of the Mediterranean, from the blue waters of which he was never far distant. Last- ly among the facts that, though per sonal, may be considered as appertain- ing to his external life, were his lame- ness and his tendency to grow fat. So great was bis horror of obesity, which ihreatened him all through life, that he ruined his life by the rigor of the means which he adopted to avert it,and suffer- ed from a constant knaw at the stomach which like Carlyle’s dyspepsia, had something to do with his cynicism, though that was, however, more moral than physical in its origin.

{ N and after Tuesday, May 13th, the new steamer ‘'Heather Belle,” Hugh McLean, master, will run as follows :—

Every Tuesday morning, at four o'clock, will leave Charlottetown for Orwell Brush Wharf; leaving Orwell Brush Wharf a} seven a. m., for Charlottetown, calling at China Point and Halliday’s Wharves; leaving Charlottetown, at three p, m,, for Halida,’s, Chiva Point and Brash Wharves, where she will remain over night.

Wednesday, will leave Brush Wharf for Char lottetown at seven a. m., culling at ( hina Point and Hailiday’s Wharves; leaving Charlottetown at three p. m, to return, remaining at Brush Wharf over night.

Thursday, will leave Brush W barf for Char- luttetown at seven a. m. calling at China Point and Halliday’s Wharves; leaving Charlottetown cst three p. m. to returp; leaving Brush Wherf about six p. m. for Charlottetown.
