UNIQUE SAFETY APPEAL

As a means of reducing the toll of highway fatalities during the coming season, a Florida public safety organization has adopted the unique plan of clrcularlzing school children. appealing to them to urge upon their parents the need cf complying with traffic regula- tions. In Canada, in our schools, we emphasize grammar, the con- struction of words. It might be better if we placed the emphasis upon the meaning of words, up- on the importance of applylns them correctly. Not all of us can become masters of the language. speaking with the precision of an Asquith, or writing with the clar- ity of a Newman, but nearly all of us should be able to understand (h: meaning of the words we use. and thus be able to express our- selves clearly.
