Dogherty, of North Easton, Mass,, who spent some weeks on the Island with friends for the benefit of his health, in the antumn ot I8§7, died at the residence of his parents, Horta Easton, on Sunday, July 12th, aged 33 years. Owing to failing health the deceased had not been engaged in active work for some time before and since his visit to the Island.

In the Tarte-McGreevy case yesterday, the committee held three sessions, morning afternoon and evening.

Thomas McGreevy’s examination was continued. It consisted chiefly in a positive denial of Murphy's and Robert Mecreevy’s evidence. He denied having written certain letters signed by him. He said they were forgeries and denied receiving certain letters alleged to have been sept in reply; he never asked his brother or Murphy for money for Sir Hector. Witness gave a categorical denial to Tarte’s charges as to corrupt bargains between himself and Larkin, Con- nolly & Co., and to improperly obtaining information from the Department of Public Works,

Mr. Giroux, chairman of the Quebec Harbor Commissioners, testified thas con- tracts were fairly awarded to Larkin, Connolly & Co., that Thomas McGreevy did not im- pose his views on the board and that he knew of nething wrong.

THE RAILWAY SCANDAL

Startling Revelations Expected.

Orrawa, Aug. 7.

In the senate railway committee, Bar- wick, the solicitor for the Ontario bank, repeated h:a charges regarding the division of $100,000 subsidy by the Quebec govern- ment for political purposes. He named Ernest H. Pancaud, editor of Le Lecteur, as the person who had received the money. Pancaud is known as a notorious boodler. Barwick offered to prove his charges. The committee are determined to sift the matter, and will examine wit- nesses on oath. This new scandal promises startling revelations as to the actions of prominent Grit members of Pariiament, Tarte is intimately associated with Pan- caud and has already been convicted of boodling transactions w:th him.

In the Public Accounts Committee yes- terday evidence was given of irregularitivs in the immigration agency at Gretta, Mani- toba, by Tetu, the agent, Tetu, who isa notorious Grit, and comes of an influential Grit family in Quebec and whose brother is a prominent Grit in Ottawa circles, had some time ago been suspended by the de- partment for some irregularities which Me- Mullen now wishes to investigate.
