Grant for g ‘ human rights conference’
The Student Union will host a conference on Human Rights this spring, if an expected government grant of $1600 comes through soon.
The funding would be from the Secretary of State, says VP Internal Howard Beattie, and would cover costs of travel for a speaker, publicity, a luncheon, conference materials, a report and evaluation .

Council will appomt this organizer, it was decided at Council Sunday night.
The organizer will do just that — organize the conference. Any interested persons are asked to contact the Student Union office immediately.
Councillor Mary McCarville remains dubious of the chances of getting the grant immediately, though, having applied for one to establish a Women’s Centre on campus last term.
“I’ve been waiting three months for mine, and they told me there’d be no problem, ” she warned Council.
Quibble over date
Council spent a full fifteen minutes arguing over the date of its next meeting at its February 3 meeting.
President Michelle Dorsey, who was not present, had suggested in absentio that the meeting be held February 24, the day before classes resume after mid-term break.
That was a ' problem with three out of the twenty Councillors, including Senator Randy Gass, who will be impeached if he misses one more meeting. He has missed three for the year.
Some Councillors didn’t think special arrangements should be made for such a small proportion of the whole Council, and discussion was heated.
An eventual decision was made to hold the meeting on Tuesday, February 26 at 9 pm.

The position of operations director for CIMN radio is open to applications for the remainder of this term.
Forms are available at the Student Union office and more information can be gained from CIMN, at extension 377.
Deadline for applications is February 15/22, 1-985.

U.P.E.I. STUDENTS ARE NEEDED To SERVE AS’GUIDES FOR VISIT- ING HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
When: Various Tuesdays and Thursdays during late February and the entire month of March. ' ,
TIME: 'Usually from about 9:30 am. until 2:00 pm. On one of the days we will start about 10:45 am. and finish at 3:00 pm.
REMUNERATION: $12.00 per day plus lunch
DUTIES: Chief responsibilities of the guides
will be: , .
1. to take students from place to place according to a pre—arranged schedule; 2. to keep their groups together;
3. to be willing and able to answer at least some of the students’ questions about life at U.P.E.|.; and
4. to be a good “host”. (Faculty members will be present at the various locations to conduct the tours.)
