The Summerside High School and Academy, grades one to twelve, has 734 pupils enrolled epresenting a decrease of 26 from ast year's en- rollment. St. Mary's Academy has 455 pupils enrolled representing an increase of 55 over last year. In this school girls are enrolled up to grade ten and boys up to and including grade three-S.

—CBILDII.EN'S AID MEETING -The regular monthly meeting of the Children's Aid Society Prince County was held in the summerside Town Hall on Monday evening, September 8th with the president. Dr. J. A. MacPhee in the chair. Several cases were re- ported for investigation by the agent of the society. It was point- ed out to the society that at pre- sent there is no truant. officer and as the town schools are reopening it is important pointed without delay as truancy

i There passed away in Summer- sldo on Saturday, August 30th, 1947, Mr. Andrew L Gallant at the age of 77 years, after an ill- ness oi about six weeks. l-Ie leaves to mourn, besides his sorrowing widow, three sons and four daugh- ters, namely: Edward and Ernest, of Summerslde; Mrs. Edmond Ar- senault, Summerside; Mrs. Regin- ald Horne, Halifax; Reta. Doreen and Franklin, at home; also on sister, Mrs. Mary Arsenault o ‘Mont Carmel. .‘ Mr. Gallant received the last rites of the Roman Catholic Church from his pastor, Msgr. G. J. MecLellsn, v.0.

The funeral took place on Tues- day morning at 9 s.m. to St. Paul's Church.

The pail bearers were: William Gallant, Arthur Perry, Levi Gai- lant, Theodore Arsenault, Albert Clow, Gilbert Arsenault. Rev. Howard Wight celebrated the re- quiem Mass with Msgr. MacLel- lan officiating at the grave. s

VETERAN MUSICIAN HEADS MUSIC GROUP

VICTORIA, Sept. 5 — (OP) - Herbert Kent at 84 is stll presid- ent of the Daminlonh oldest choral socie which he helped found more an half a century ago.

The Arion Club of Victoria was started in i892 when a group of male singers started to gather weekly lo sing their favorite songs.

Kent, mentally kccn and well preserved physically as the aver- age man halt his use, Ls not only an active president but his great experience makes him the very bulwark of the club.

He came to Victoria from Eng- land with his parents at the age of two and for 82 years has watch- ed its steady growth from a re- mote Empire outpost.

He is one oi’ Canada's most ver- satile musicians, having taken part in masterpieces like the Messiah and acted and sung in comic oper- ettas.

In 1880 he made his first ap- pearance on tile stage. singing and dancing in the operetfa “Love in a Village." Later the same year he played the part oi Dlmbiik 1T1 "Still Waters Run Earp," and still remembers the opening lines.

Today the club still provides its member; and associate members with the fine music they desire,
