OTTAWA. June 3-—(CP)— Changes in the practice of call- ing up men for compulsory mil- itary training were announced today by the Defence Depart- merit.

In future men will be called out daily, except Saturday and Sunday, instead of once a month. They will report to disg trict army depots instead of go- ing direct to basic training cent-

At this stage, it is difficult to predict exactly what effect the Bri- tish bombing of Germany will have on German public morale or on

Hitler's war effort against Russia.

There is no yardstick of previous experience by which to gauge the probabilities-except the battle 0f Britain. British endurance won out then. The odds against Britain were greater in every respect than they yet are against Germany even though the British attack on such

German cities as Cologne and Essen was probably

twice as heavy as

that any British community lived through in a single night. ' O O I l

The miracles wrought by British hornegu-rd air forces against lucceeding waves of Nazi attack week after week and month after month are rivalled only by the stoiclsm of the British people. Under

the ordeal by fire they never flinched and never

stopped working to

produce the tools with which to strike back. The fact that Britain emerged from the great test with nerves un-

shaken and war-making capacity steadily dwindling gives little reason to suppose

expanding instead of that German morale will

quickly break under a similar strain. Nazldom is unquestionably better prepared to meet this test than was Great Britain. It would be folly to put much faith in hopes that Germany can quickly be knocked out of the war through any internal collapse brought on solely by a British

Claims all war Expenditures Fully Checked

OVITAWA, June 3—(CP)—Caii- adas huge war expenditures are being carefully checked and audited by a small army of auditors and staff. Finance Minister Ilsley as- sured the House of Commons to- day.

He was replying to a statement of T. L. Church (Con. Toronto- Broadview) that; "the whole pro- cedure of parliamentary control of expenditures has been upset.” Mr. Church questioned the control now exercised by the auditor-general.
