Sin,—l1 saw in your paper some time ago, that the plans for the coeees of our a are finished, and that there would be a gen- eral meeting of the city tosee whst was going to be done. I think that would be a high'y in p-oper step to take. We have put those cizht counsellors there in onn- fidence to do justice for us; and are they ging to take the responsibility off their own shoulders and put it on others? At a public meeting a number of the people would be tenants, and what does the ten- ant care for the welfare of the freebolder } It is not fair that they «hduld have a vote in this affsir, Wheis ic that owns the city. Is it not the freeholders? And why call a public meeting of such menas have uo interest im our city, like sume of our whole- aale merchants that did business in the city, and carried a high head, and got largely into debt and cleared off with fuli pockets, and left their creditors to mourn the l.ss,—he was a strong advocate for sewers and wrote iu favor of them. A tenant is like a b.rdof passage. He can take your house and insure his stock, aod, if he ws bad enovgh, set fire to your house co get the insurance; and he can move to enother house. Are those the men that are to have a voice in saying the sewers are needed, and to put an extra tax on the poor man that owns a small property. I would say no.

SKATING AT PICTOU, A Good Race.

The Breen Carroll three mile skating race in the rink here last even was won by Breen. The first mile was in 3 min., 7 sec., Carroll having gained a few yards, but during the second mile Breen made up for his a9, and before the last mile was entered up- oa he had overtaken the Pictou man.
