Two sND A HALF YEARS have passed away | since tho first number was issued ; and still! the Dar.y Examiner persists in making its| daily round of the city and its daily tour of the Province, with its daily “ abstract and brief chronicle of the time.” It has hung on to life so long, and through so many dif | ficulties that, somehow, people are* begin- ning to have increased confidence in it ; and, of late, the volume of its business | transactions has increased fully a half. If this increase continues (and we hope it may) we shall soon be enabled to print a larger paper at a smaller cost. In fact, we now offer fo all our readers who advance payment before the Slst day of December nect, the Damry Examiner throughout the coming year, for four dollars. The offer is open to those only who pay in advance, within the time named, for the entire year. Accounts will forthwith be made out at the old price for the paper for twelve months from date—instead of for six months as heretofore and those who take advantage of the offer will have the reduction made at the tie of payment. There are a few —and but a few—subscribers who have fallen into arrears. If these do not pay up on or before Friday next we ‘shall be compel led to'stop the paper, and invoke the aid of the Siipendiary Magistrate and his gentle- manly sv ordinates.

We are informed that the report of the Patriot of yesterday, respecting the Lun- atic Asylum— that almost

With regard to the delay in removing the patients to new hospital, we are informed that it is due to the fact that some articles required in the institution—part of which have been ordered from abroad—-have, throngh no fault of the officials concerned, not yet been obtained.

Sir Leonard Tilley at Guelph.

In Guelph (Ont.) a few evenings ago, Sir Leonard Tilley was entertained at a ban- quet at which he, of course, nade a speech. The speech, though confessedly an in- promptu one, is pleasant reading. It is full of assurance and hope for the future of Cinada. Sir Leonard very happily showed how it is that Sir John MeDonald isa lucky man to lead a Government ; and dwelt at length upon the results of the tariff, the re-opening of the West India Trade, and} the new life inspired into manufactures, without any material in- crease of prices. He said the great cen- tres of trade, such as Montreal and To- ronto, had been the first to feel the bene- fits of the new policy ; improvement has been manifested in nearly every part of the Dominion, and the manifestation ‘would be more marked in the course of afew years.
