Osx Saturday night the garden of Mr. R. Inman, on Malpeyue Road, was raided by thieves, and a bee hive, containing about fifty pounds of honey, stelen therefrom. Warrants have been issued for the arrest of the thieves.

Apert ALL, who was, on the 21st inst., arrested on suspicion of having burned a barn on the estate of the late William Allin (his father), was discharged from, custody to-day, there being no evi lence to prove that he com- mitted the act.

Anxir WHELAN, who was charged with the larceny of a quantity of ladies’ underclothing from Mrs. Leddell (who is now absent from the Province), was to-day acquitted by the Sti- pendiary Magistrate. The Magistrate said that as the things she was accused of stealing were all small, he had no doubt that they were given to her by Mrs. Liddell.

Joux McCane appeared at the Stipendiary Magistrate’s Court this forenoon, on a charge of insulting and striking inoffensive people as they passed the street. John denied the charge on the whole; but the Magistrate, thinking his denial too thin, fined him $3 and costs or 14 days.

Ivrectrcence from Montreal relative to business affairs is becoming more and more en- couraging. Business men there say that the outlook is more promising than at any time since the great depression began, aud that, in fact, nearly all branches of trade are ex- veriencing a revival that bids fair to prove listing.

On Tuesday morning last, His Grace the Archbishop of Amido (Bishop McKinnon), had an attack of paralysis, from which he never rallicd. ‘he last sacrament he received from his confessor, Rev. H. Sertous Assau.it.—John Wise, caulker was arraigned before the Stipendiary Magistrate this forenoon on charge of assaulting J. H. G. Murphy, barber. On Wise’s name being called the Court was informed that Murphy was so seriously affected by the assault that he was unable to appear in Court. The history of the assault, as faras we can learn, is :— Murphy was strack with a stone while on Water street about half-past seven on Satur- day evening. The location of the wound in- tlicted by the stone was exactly between his eyes. It bled profusely but, for a short time, he did not think it anything serious. He walked to his father’s residence on Euston street. Here the bleeding continued with very serious effect and towards eleven o'clock the services of two physicians had to be procured. They dressed the wound but blood continued to ooze alarmingly, and it was thought the unfortunate young man would ex-

ire before Sunday morning. The ‘outward

ow of the bleod was stopped but it contin- ned to flow inwardly all day yesterday. To- day there are slight indications of his recovery although blood continues to trickle down his throat with an injurious effect. The young man Murphy made complaint at the police station on Saturlay night and the prisoner Wise was arrested. ‘This morning after the exainination of a witness whom Murphy told ‘it was Wise struck him” Wise was remand- @1 to jail for further examination.
