The annual colt stakes of the Prince Edward Island Homes Racing Club will be held next. Wednesday night, September 10th at the Charlottetown Driving Park starting at 7.30. President R. F. Seaman and Secretary W. G. Gil- lespie are to be congratulated on the splendid list of starters they have for these very interesting contests. Last year in similar stakes a. new two-year-old pacing record was set up by Royal Bank, owned by F. A. Ryder of Moncton and driven by Harley Harrison- 2.19 U5-and a new three-year- old pacing record was set up by Doctor J. A., owned by Dr. J. A. Donahoe of Truro and driven by Ray O'Brien-2.12 W5. Four class- es will be raced Wednesday night consisting of a Two Year Old Trot, a Two Year Old Pace, each with two heats, a Three Year Old Trot and a Three Year Old Pace. each with three heats. Twenty-one horses will take part and there will be five monies in each class. The puries are all 3500. plus 810 for each non-winner. and a beau- tiful cooler for the winner of each class. These are given by the Prince Edward Island Harness Racing Club. Positions for these races will be drawn Tuesday morn- lng at the race secretary's office. Charlottetown Driving Park at ten o'clock.

And once again Henry Dewitt makes good with Just Lucky, win- nlng the first heat of the Class C and being fourth in the second heat. The trotter Card Shark (Hamilton) was 3-i and Cedric Hanover (Chase) 2-2, two other starters. Card Shark is owned by W. M. Stiles of Woodstock. Time, 2.15 4-6, 2.15. Card Shark has a trotting record ,of 2.06 on a mile track and 2.10 W5 on a half-mile track.

Our friend John 1. Road of Truro. always writes us when any- thing out of the ordinary occurs in racing in his vicinity. He has followed the horses during a long lifetime and we don't know of anyone in the Maritimes better acquainted with the stars of long ago. Mr. Road was very much im- pressed by the performance of Meg, a five-year-old pacer by Peter Astra. owned by H.E. Clowes of Derby, N. Y. and driven by Don McNelll in the second race last Monday at Truro when she headed a good field to win in 2.12 W5, lowering her record from 2.14 (V5.

Mr. Moore is a keen nun- ter but he told me he wouldn't shoot a duck on this pond for I fifty dollar bill. Once a man gains the trust and affection of the crea- tures of the wild he has no desire to betray it.

A few teal were mixed in among the blacks and one brood of Wood Ducks. Also a. wild mallard drake, secured in ,Ontario, had mated with a black duck and 9 cross breeds were the result. 15 Domes- ticated wildgeese were swimming within a few feet of us and it was a- musing to watch a family of young muskrats about the size of ham rats trying to shoo the geese and ducks away. The geese didn't take any ohances but would swim off when- ever the muskrats chased them but the ducks were inclined to play a game of tag. I took a great kick out of watching the young musk- rats. They lie. on the water with their tails cocked at a saucy angle and when the ducks came too close they'd try and jump at them. They were quite the play boys.

I inquired about the Cvrandview goose and Henley pointed her out to me on the outside of the flock. She was a different looking bird from when I took her from a fox pen on a fai'm at Grandvlew last October a few days before the sea- son opened. She had been picked up near the Station a week or so previously, by a couple of the local boys. She was suffering from a. gun- shot wound in one wing. I heard about the gvent over the 'grapev1nc' a day or so later and also learned from the same source that it was the intention of her custodians to keep her until the opening morn- ing for goose and use her as a live decoy (incidentally this practice is prohibited by the Migratory Birds Act). If she performed satisfactorily they would keep her, If not her head was coming off and she was slated for the roasting pan.

And now here is something to really interest the many friends of the late Charles Chandler's best. loved trotter, Lustlcia. We have followed her summaries at Truro with a great deal of inter- est this season and have noticed that she has been racing in real good form always a contender and right tliere at the finish. In the 6th race she headed such tough horses as Carl Frisco 2.03, Gallant Bobby 2.13 4,15, Billy Kal- muck 2.13 U5 and Clipper Dale 2.16 U5, that finished in that or- dcr. time, 2.14 H5.

Next Thursday and Saturday nights two good programs of classified races will be held at the Charlottetown track. Every effort -will be made to bring together the best trntters and pacers in the province and as the season is get- ting late all lovers of harness rac- ing should endeavor to see one or both these meets. Entries for these races will appear early next week. They will follow the Colt Stakes which will be raced on Wednesday night.

Finally one of them hlurted out: "We didn't know the season was closed "Who said it. was clued?" "Well, isn't it?" was his reply. They found it awful hard to be- lieve their luck. As I started up the C!!! One of them stuck his head in the window: "You aren't foolln' about the trout season being open are you?" "No chum, I'm not fool- ing.
