Eels “Daisies of the Galaxy” Universal

There are three types of songs on Daisies of the Galaxy: uplifting songs, depressing songs, and songs that blend all emotions. The powerful feelings this album dredges up in its listeners is due to the sincerity of Mark Everett (also knownas A Man Called E)’s vocals. The artwork on the cover, and the band’s use of toy instruments give this album achildlike atmosphere, but the Eels’ seemingly simplistic approach to music is deceiving. There are a lot of original ideas behind the music that make multiple listens rewarding.

Supergrass EMI

Songs that stick in your head usually end up sounding irritating after a while, but I’ve never experienced an entire album that I can’t stop thinking about. Songs by Supergrass are too good to be irritating. I doubt there will be a better album released this year. Supergrass combine the best elements of the Rolling Stones and Brian Wilson. They offer hope for fans of guitar rock by putting effort in crafting memorable songs that stand out from the dull Replacements rip-offs

polluting top 40 radio. This album should be pumping on your stereo. MacLeod

The Smugglers “Rosie”

The latest release from this Vancouver rock ‘n roll outfit is without a doubt the best punk album that I’ve heard in (at least) five years. That’s along time. Full of the band’s infectious fun and amusing lyrics, it captures the bands energy wonderfully. These thirteen tracks, including “Danko Jones’ Pants” and “Kings of the Party” prove once and for all that the Smugglers are a band to watch for. O’Connor

“WWF Aggression” Priority Records/EMI While wrestling may suck, this album doesn’t.

Featuring rap versions of wrestling theme songs, it has tracks by Run DMC, Method Man, Kool Keith and ODB, as well as Snoop Dogg with W.C. Definitely not your average theme album, this is actually exciting, enjoyable, and most definitely better than the originals. Rap and wrestling, what a concept. O’Connor

It’s not the ol’school NWA Ice Cube but some of the joints are pretty tight and he does hook up with Dre and Ren on one of them. If you like the Don Mega Dance version of Cube then it’s probably worth checking out.

This album would have been a lot better if Puff Daddy’s bitch-ass hands had not been all over it. And you’d think the Puffster would be more careful as Rob is the only Bad Boy rapper left. Overall it’s a good album because Black Rob can write and rap and the sounds aren’t bad. However, the skits are stupid.
