DOGS TO PERFORM AT BARN CANADIAN CROSSROADS INTERNATIONAL DANCE RE- SCHEDULED

A fundraising dance celebrating China’s ‘‘ Year of the Monkey’’ and featuring known local band, The Dogs, will be held at the U_E.P.I. Barn on Saturday, April 4th.

The dance,which was scheduled to be held on Febru- ary 29 but had to be cancelled due to bad weather, is being held to raise funds for Canadian Crosswords International in aid of local volunteer Leo Cheverie, a library technician at Robertson Library, U.P.E.I. In September 1992, he willbe teaching English to young teachers and students ata training school rum by an agricultural bank.

Tianjing is china’s third largest city with a population of seven million. It sits astride China’s largest artificial harbour and is a key transportation hub serving the populous North China Plain. The city is the smallest of China’s three centrally administered municipalities; the others are Beijing and Shanghai. ‘‘Tam looking forward toa challenging and rewarding experience during my stay in Tianjing,’’ says Mr. Cheverie. ‘‘In addition to teaching English, I hope to absorb some of China’s culture and give people there some knowledge of Canadian culture.’’

Canadian Crossroads International isa voluntary association that provides participants with cross- cultural learning experiences. Through these experi- ences, CCI hopes to create and enhance mutual under- standing and respect among people of different cul- tures. Toward this end, each volunteer is expected.to raise $2,000 in his or herhome community before serving in anothercountry. Prince Edward Island’s other crossroader is Gerard Peters, a Business Ad- ministration Senior at UPEI who will be going to Guyana in September for a placement.

During the dance, people will be able to view a dis- play of written materials describing CCl and its programs. And, in keeping with the Chinese theme, there will be a series of draws for door prizes, includ- ing some from China.

And fans of The Dogs will be pleased to know that well-known guitar player Chris Corrigan, recently on a national tour with Lennie Gallant, will be reunited with the band. The other band members are vocalist and guitarist Mike Mooney, recent winner of the
