If people would only abstain from interfering in things with which they have no concern, and which an upjusti- tiable interest, arising from a purient disposition of petty curiosity, prompts, how smoothly affairs would proceed in families and society,and how much mis- chief might be avoided and vexation spared !
The happiness and tranquility of life depends upon tunfles, and by such is much misery and disquietude caused.
A prying spirit only administers to its own uneasiness, and those who are on the watch for causes of offence find that one day or another they come home to them in an accumulating wave, like the Dutchman, centuries ago, who cut open a dike to injure a neighbor, and drowned himself and laid two pro- vinces under water.
Great events spring from little causes, and matters unimportant in themselves have a direful effect in con} nection with the others. It is always best to look upon a shining aspect of things, and not worry one’s self in tor-| turing every look, gesture and expres sion into a preconceived: notion, and converting an imaginary grievance nto) a real trouble. There is an unhappy fancy in some people to parade them selves as injured and long-suffering ia- dividuals ; patient martyrs and ostentatious victims of the neglect and indifference of others. This proceeds from obstinacy, pride and an ill-temper and querulous temperament, of which they are not conscious. They fancy that they are a personification of ami-

Our Boys.
“There, Harry, do run out of the room!” said a young lady, whom I chanced to be visiting, to her vounger brother. him,’ she continued, “to come into the room where there’s company.”
“Do let him stay,” I pleaded. “Why do you drive him out?”
“Because he’s got muddy boots,’ was the quick reply.
“And he’s whittling a great, horrid stick,” said another sister.
“He whistles,” echoed a third mem- ber of the family.
The majority generally carries the vote, but, in this case, the boy was al- lowed to remain.
A great, good-natured looking fellow he was, with honest brown eyes. He sat meekly in the corner, and notwith- standing his many faults, conducted himself like a little gentleman. Yet, why washe to be excluded from the room? Simply, because he was—a boy.
I regret to say that there are many families who are entirely ignorant of the system of training “our boys.”
Ifa boy is sent out of the parlor when the grown up sister has com- pany—if, upon going to the library, papa will say: “There, Johnny, do run away; Lam busy at present,’ he will prebably find a place where he will not trouble any one. He will keep bad company, read the worst style of literature, and the next step will be running away from home.
If your boys do wear muddy boots, whistle, and whittle sticks, God bless them for it; they will make all the better men. Mother do not chide your boy if you find his bat and ball upon the floor. There may come a time when your boys haye all grown up, and leftthe nest, as it were, that your heart will yearn to hear a boyish shout, a shrill whistle, or to find the worn eap or school books in their old ac- customed place.
If your boy’s feet are too muddy to cross your door, the doors of the pub- Jic houses are open to invite its victims. ‘Ifyou will not let him sing and dance, the low concert and dance-house will. The highways of life are open to all. Broad are the pathways where vice and folly walk hand in hand, and un- suspicious is youth of their glittering baits,

Mothers be kind to the boys, and we will have less druok- ards, fewer gamoblers,, but instead true soldiers, noble statesmen and worthy citizens will spring from “ Our Boys.”

a price which it is hoped will place it within the reach of all consumers. The opening of the new winning at ‘‘ THE SYDNEY MINES” and the fact that the SYDNEY COAL now being shipped is all from the DEEP taken in connection with re- cent improvements in the process of screening, affords purchasers a positive guarantee of the very superior quality and condition of the SYDNEY COAL now offered for sale. It is a well-know fact that for many years peas the prices of other Cape Breton coals have n regulated by the rates fixed for SYDNEY COAL; but while itis true that other coals, to get a sale at all, have been pressed on the market at various prices under the current rate of SYDNEY COAL, it is no less true that, taking into account the superior lasting qualities of SYDNEY COAL when compared with other Cape Breton coals, the advantage, both as to economy and convenience, is in favor of SYDNEY COAL, even at a much higher price. The General Mining Association (Limited) regret that they should again have to caution the Public against the attempts being made from time to time to induce them to buy in- ferior coals purporting to be ‘‘ EQUAL TO SYDNEY,” * SUPERIOR TO SYDNEY,” etc., etc., while some yet more unscrupulous vendors have not hesitated to advertise their coal as SY DNEY COAL (from some designated locality). All these efforts to sell coal by such means are only so many admissions on the part of those who make them of the sraNDARD character of SYDNEY COAL. lt has come to the knowledge of the Asso- ciation that in frequent instances parties givin orders to truackmen and others for SYDNEY COAL have been furnished with other and inferior coal.
