Electric Railway Bill — Government House and the Park Roadway,
Monpay, March 30. House met at 8 p. m. Mr. Warburton presented a petition from himself and others asking for the incorporation of a company. te. be called the Charlottet6wn Electric Company, having for its object the construction and running of an electric railway or tramway in the City, Common and Royalty of Charlottetown, and the county of Queen’s County, and for the supplying of electric energy or power and coal or other gases, for lighting, heating, motor and other use- ful purposes. Mr. Warburton explained that the ob- ject of the bill was to secure the right to operate a railway over the city and com- mon, as well as throughout Queen’s County. He thought the time was not far distant when the last part of the mea- sure would become operative, and he be~ lieved, further, that it would be the means of eolving the vexed question of communi- catioa with other parts of the Province. Some time ago he had given a member of the City Council a rough draft of the bill for submission to that body. Since that time, however, he had gone over the bill more carefully gnd had made some changes, which he ‘would fully explain to thé Mayor aud Council. He asked that the bill be read a first time now, and before it came up for a second reading, the bill, as introduced. could be carefully considered by the City Council and the members of the House.
The petition was received and read, and a Lill in accordance therewith submitted.
Hon. Mr. Farquharson hoped the Com- pany would not be asking for too much, as he was opp sed to monopolies of every description.
Hon. Mr. Peters thought that in view of the importance of the measure it should be dealt with in an especial manner. He therefore moved that it be referred {to a special committee of five to investigate. The mytion was put and carried, an the following committee was appointed : Warburton, H. C. Macdonald, Prowse and James E. Macdonald.
The House then adjourned until 3 p. m., on Tuesday.
