Diep Aproap.—News of thedeath of Mr. George Howatt, at St. Angustine Fla., vesterday morniug bas been received. Death was cau-ed by erysipelas. Mr. Howatt was 538 years of age, and previous to leaving this province, some ten years ago, did ousiness at Crapaud. The deceas— ed leaves a wife aud four children. He was a brother of Mr. Bradford D. How- att of Crapaud, and of Mrs. Thomas Reg- erson, of the same place, Mrs. Dutcher and Mrs William Burke, of Charlottetown, and Mr-. Ryder, of Boston, are sisters. His mother re- sides at Crapaud. The bereaved widow avd family and other relatives have the

sheets of blotting paper on the 4th inst. These sheets were kept wmuist, and yesterday, whea Mr. Carter examived them be found that the seed had taken, root, pierciag the tlotting paper in every direction, while the blades of wheat bed grown almost twoinehes. A

Bismarck’s Escape.

Lewxpox, April 11:—The firet issue o/ the Sunday edition of the Daily Mail con- tains a etaiement by Dr. Schweninger, for manv years Prince Biemerck’s physician, in which be relates the old Chancellor’s thirty years’ straggle with death. While bunting in August, 1897, he fell from his horse, experiencing thereafter a slight pain io his left leg. He visited a quack doctor at Hei delberg, who ordered the application

of aplasier before proceed ng on hie jour- vey home by train. The chief ingredient of the plaster was Spanish fly. The Privce awoke in the night in violent pain. He tore off the platter and disclosed a deep

wound which was perfectly black. A burning iuflan-wation developed, and it was thought that amputation of the leg would be necessary. Special treatment caused temporary modifications of the pain, but it recurred frequently until bis death. His physicians on several occa ssions told bim be was within a hand’s

grasp of death.

At Portage, Lot 36, on the 9th inst., of heart failure, Margaret Logan, relict of the late James Jennings inthe 68:h year of her age, leaving five eons aod four daugb- ters to mourn the irrepairable loses of a kind and loving mother. Deceased was of a genial, benevolent and sympathetic dis- position and was highly esteemed and res~ pected by all who had the pleasure of ber acquaintance. She died fortified and con- soled by the last sacred rites of the Holy Catholic Church. May her soul rest in peace.

At Point Prim, Miss Elizabeth Me- Leod, after a lingering illness which she bore with Christian patience, passed away peacefully on Sunday the 19th day of March. Deceased wae an early convert of the late Rev. D. McDonald and a very desirable woman, she leaves @ brother and sieter to mouru their irrepairable loss. Age 7g.
