Sommer Horet-—It is pleasing to hear that the prospects for the success of the jateat hotel scheme are excellent: A meet- ing of the subscribers was held yesterday. Abcut $4,000 is already subscribed, and a committee has been appointed to solicit further subscriptions. It is proposed to build the new hotel at Langley Beach, near the mouth of the harbor. A tug will be provided to convey people to and from the city, and open-air concerts will be given in the evenings. The cupital stock of the company will be $10 000, in shares of $50 each Che hotel will have accommodation for about one bundred guests, and the cost of the building will be between $6,000 and $7,000.

Distursine Reticious Worsare.—Mr. John More, of Crapaud, was this forenoon arraigned before R. R. Fitzyerald, J. P., to answer a charge of disturbing religious worship in St. John’s Church. The infor- mation against Moore was laid by Mr. Thomas Rogerson. More iz(or was) a member of the church choir. About ten Witnesses have been summoned to appear and give evidence, and the case will likely last all day. Judging by what we beard of Rev. M. Deniel’s evidence this morning, Mr. More's chief offence consists in h‘s persisting to sing louder than the others, ur according tu the method used before the style of singing was changed by Rev. The three seamen who were rescued from the Norwegian ship Thekla, which sailed from Philadelphia December 2nd, says the vessel encountered tempestuous weather from the start. When she seemed in danger of foundering, the master, mate and eight seamen got away in the boat. The other boats had been smashed by the waves. Nine men were obliged to remain Mm the rigging. They were unable to get food from below. Five of them, made -a- sane by exposure and privation, jum el overboard, The other four remained aboard until the dey of rescue. On the thirteenth day lots were drawn to deter mine which one of the four should be killed and eaten. The lot fell twice in succession to a Dutch sailor, and he was strangled and devoured by the other three.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR St. Peter's Penny. Readings.

Sir,—The excellent character of the entertainment given in St. Peter’s School- room last night should satisfy the public that when anything of the kind is adver- tised to take plece there, they will be sure to get their money's worth. ‘hat cur citizens should recognize this fact is well attested by the liberal patronage extended these popular entertainments by people of all ages, ceeeds, and from all directions.

The instrumental and vocsl music was much above the average. The Rev. F. E, J. Lioyd sung well, as he always does; and I thought we never heard Mr. F. de C. Davies’ fine tenor voice to better advantage. Mrs. George Hodgson and Miss M. Moore also sang well and received deserved en- cores, and the instrumental duet of Miss Hyndman and Miss Amy Moore made an excellent opening to the programme. The reading of Mr Arthur Peters was most amusiog. Of the re- citation given by Miss Enid McLean it would be difficult to speak too highly, and we confess we were amezed to find such powers in the eae of so young a lady. The ‘* Chariot
