Impure Milk,

he fact that much impure milk is being sold in New York has aroused the author- ities to action. The other day one Louis O. Meyer was charged with selling milk trom distillery-swill-fed cows. Que of the cows Was found to have tuberculous con sumption, and three pleuro-pnemonia; all were emaciated. The consumptive cow has since died. Meyer was fined $500, and the Sanitary Hngineer laments the nature of the sentence as follows:-—But in view of the fact that the physicians examined were of the opinion that blood-poisoning, and, perhaps, consumption were likely to result from the use of such milk, we regret ex- ceedingly that the Court did not see fit to impose the alternative of imprisonment, as wealthy scoundrels pay their five, and generally go on with their villainy.
