But. we are most likely to make the mistake of thinking that world government today would be more readily attainable thao ever before in history.

While the interdependence of nations is henceforth an unques- tionable fact, nevertheless we must remember that this is essentially an economic interdependence; rt unity brought about by the swift- nesa of travel and by the advances of technology. and not an inter- dependence which is the result of a commonues of idea and pur- pose. Political unity will result when there is an agreement of wills and this must be built up; it cannot be superimposed.

Government departments. More- over. it's expected the Govern- ment will introduce additional legislation. This could include bills to implement recommendat- ions of the 1950 Joint Senate- Commons committee on old age pensions. and the royal commis- sions on transportation. and the arts. letters and sciences.

These are all weighty matters. promising lengthy debate. As one MP told me, "There's enough ahead of us to keep us here till September.”

Minister st. Laurent is known to be strongly against keeping Parliament in session during July and August. So, ap- parently. are most MP's. Reports from the Liberal caucus last week said the Government ibaek-bench- ers were outspoken in favoring a fall session. And while st. Laur- ent made no promises. he un- doubtedly was impressed.

Unfortunately, from the stand- point of private MP's. it's not cer- tain that it fall sitting would bring any more money. Actually. the current session could be re- cessed for the summer months and convened in the fall at no great cost to the treasury. The MP's would be entitled to an ex- tra indemnity only if this session were formally wound up. and an entirely new one started in the fall.

The thought that the MP's may be asked to come back in the autumn for the same 34.000 they've already earned--and. in most cases. spent-is enough to raise a row in any caucus. But the Gov- ernment has to consider public opinion: would I double indem- nity for MP's be regarded unfav- orably; even condemned as scan- daloiis?

After the public outcry at the payment of s 351000.000 subsidy to the wheat. farmers. it's not likely the Government will act hastily.

Thursday evening. May 31. the people at Green Road and vicinity gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John E. McGaughey, Green Road. to pay honor and respect to their son James, who recently graduated from Dnlhous-ie Univer- sity with the degree of D.D.S.

The meeting was called to order by Mr. Stephen W. Tools and an address was read by Mr. Maurice McQuaid; presentation was by Mr. Charles P. Toole. James. in his usual manner. with a few well chosen words thanked the people for their thoughtfulness and re- minded them although he had joined His Majesty's Forces. the people of Green Road and vicinity would always be remembered by him.

The remainder of the evening was spent. in dancing, very much enjoyed by everyone.

We, your friends and neighbors of Green Road and vicinity gather here this evening to pay our honor and respects to you on your grad- uation at Dalhousie University in the profession of Dentistry. where you obtained your degree ofD.D.S. We. your school mates. know of your scholastic ability and thirst for knowledge during your time with us in our primary school.

Later, when you entered Saint Dunstan's University. we watched with pride your successful attain- ments till you graduated from there with a Bachelor of Arts de- gree with distinction. and in or- der to improve yourself you went to Dalhouaie University to pursue the study of dentistry, which study you accomplished with honor and distinction and are now preparing to enter your practice in the field of your desired profession.

It must be a great pleasure to your parents who have made many sacrifices in order to usist you in your efforts to accomplish your objective. We wish to re- mlhd you. Miss Joan Powiey, daughter of Mr: and Mrs. Edward Powley, Mt. Edward Road, arrived home Sat- urday night after a. three year stay in India. She will return to that country after a holiday with her parents here.

A native of Newfoundland. Miss Powley states she is almost a woman without a country due to her extensive travelling. she ob- tained her early education in New- foundland and went from there to England for further studying.
