Welcome to the Political Studies Society News. Okay, so it is not a very original title, but we are working on it.

First, yes, there is a society, or, at least an effort to establish one. Today was election day, and since this is written a few days earlier, the results are unknown. The executive positions up for election were president, vice president, secretary/treasurer and department representative.

Second, there are no solid plans being thrown around yet. The aim of the Society is to provide an opportunity for an informal gathering of political studies majors and minors. There are hopes for some kind of fundraising through sale of t-shirts or hats. There are also plans for a student-faculty get together in October. More details will be available within the next few weeks.

Third, all majors and minors (and prospective ones) are invited to attend the first meeting of the Society this year, on Fri (27th) at 1:30pm in the Political Lounge (Room 401 Main). This will give everyone a chance to meet the executive and meet each other. Hope to see you there!

CIMN

News

CIMN is finally up and running! Our volunteers have started their shows so you can tune in to 700 am on campus or 104.5 cable FM off campus to check out ‘‘ The Island’s only alternative’’.

For all of you out there who filled out a ballot for our CD draw during registration -- we have a winner! Craig Douglas is now the proud owner of 50 CD singles compli- ments of CIMN. Congratulations Craig!! To those of you who entered and did not win, keep your eyes open for future on air giveaways.

We are still on the look-out for more volunteers for jobs ranging from hosting your own show, to production work, to helping out CIMN pubs and on campus

activities. So if you are interested in any _ facet of radio work, come on over to CIMN at the third floor of the Barn. There will be a mandatory CIMN volunteer meeting on Friday, September 29 at 1:30 pm at the Barn. For those volunteers that can not come please RSVP in person to manage- ment or through email. Everyone who is interested in CIMN is welcome so come ‘oad in the fun!

CIMN’s first pub of the year will take place on September 29 at the Barn. The pub will feature Rebecca West, Straw- berry, and guests. Doors will open at 7pm and the bands will start at 9pm. This will be a great event and it is wet and dry so everyone is welcome. We look forward to seeing everyone there!

WUSC-UPEI WANTS YOU

This organization which has a local committee on campus is found on many cam- | puses across the country. World University | Services of Canada provides students with opportunities to learn about development overseas, sponsor refugee students and provide students opportunities to travel to local, nation: and international workshops and seminars. _

Last year the UPEI local committee _ sponsored a successful regional conference on the theme of accessibility to education. It also sponsored a refugee student, Abdul [brahim Saeed from Somalia here at UPEI, and a first year student Jolyn Cambell travelled to Viet to attend a WUSC Seminar. This coming year, we hope to do more development education projects, fundraising (would you like a basket | from Botswawa?), and many other activities.

Join us at 6 pm, second floor of the Ban on Sept 26. We will be welcoming Lisa Pitre from the National office of WUSC who will outline what is possible through involvement with our local committee. If you are interested in other parts of the globe and development issues, we have a place for you in our commit- tee. If you can’t come but are interested please leave your name and phone number with Gale Taylor at Student Services.
