Canadian Butter in Deckees. The Jovrnal of Commerce sounds a note ft warning as to the Canadian butter trade. for the three months bepinning Mav Ist, 1880, the Montreal shipme nts to the | sited King edom were 53,265 pac ska wes, while for the corresponding period of 1884 but 8,000 packages have been forwarded. This won- derful increase is said to be due to changes in the English market during the last four years. The improvement in Irish and con- tineutial butters has been very marked, and Kuglish taste has become so cultivated for fresh make, that old and stale butters are not needed for other than table use. Canadian makers persist in holding the pro- duct of their dairies till the flavor is off and by tha it time it is rendered practically use- less for the export market. Re fusing to accept fair prices for their butter when | tresh, they hold it for a rise in price till it | becomes strong and unmerchantable. The | fact seems to be decide d by the extraordin- ary fallin exports that if Canadian butter is to find a market in Great Britain it must be well made and shipped at once. If this =_— done the demand for it would be large, and the farmers would command a far hi; gher average price.
