NEW YORK (AP)-The yan- IDS4 saw the greatest stock mar- ket boom in the history of the United States.

Old records going back to 1929 fell one by one as the market marched steadily -forward all year. People mode more dollars in the I950 stock market than ever before. The general public was in the market. They almost all made money. A few lost.

The value ohllsted securities on the New York stock exchange went from about sll7.000,000,000 at the start of the year t) an es- timated 3l70,000.000,000 on New Year's Eve: A total profit of around 353.000.000.000.

The story was much the same for the American stock exchange in New York, the Midwest stock exchange in Chicago, and all the other smaller exchanges. SEPTEMBER START

This present great bull market boom got going in the middle of September in 1953 after 3 hi e- month decline. it dipped und r profit-taking at the end of 1953, but recovered and kept right on surging ahead into 1954.

In the final week of ihe'year, the stock market went through a typical performance. Monday it zwas lower under the pressure of selling for tax purposes and.be- cause of the uncertainties sur- rounding the vote of confidence on the French government of Premier Mendes-France.

The market snapped out of that reaction and pounded ahead strongly Tuesday and Wednesday. it was quiet Thursday.

On the final day of the year the advance was resumed.

The Associated Press average of 80 stocks closed the year at. 3155.20, up 80 cents on the day, and only s2.50 from the all-time peak. GAIN FOR. YEAR.

The gain for the year was 347.10, or 43.6 per cent. The next best

lyear was 1928 when the average vwas up 40.1 par cent. In 1929 the

average from the first of the year to the all-time high on Sept. 3 ad-

MONTREAL (CPI-The Alum- inum Company of Canada Thurs- day announced a price Increase of three quarters of a cent a pound effective Jan. 1. on primary alum- inum ingots for delivery to Cana- dian markets.

The announcement said related increases will be made in prices its metals delivered overseas. and adjustments will also be mode in prices of semi-fabricated alum- inum products.

The increase in primary ingols will raise the price Jan. 1 to 19.75 cents a pound, with carlosd freight allowed to rail destination in Can- ads.
