You say Mr. Lowe never received anything. I never thought he did ; that according to your interview published in the Guardian of No- vember 27, 1899, the Government offered to settle with Mr. Lowe and pay him for the material at full invoice prices, also to pay truckage

A Liberal Farmer Scores the

Government.

Sir,---As we are now on the verge of a general election it may not be amiss to review briefly some of the promises made by tke Liberal party on previous occasions, also some of their acts.

In the year 1893 the chief ques- tion brought forward was that of taxation. Mr. Peters de- clared that owing to the probability of our having our claims at Ottawa adjusted taxation was away in the dim and distant future—indeed we would, in all probability, never re- quire to levy taxes at all. He also declared that in the eyent of his party having the Government: he would consult the people before levy- ing taves. His party was elected, and a few monthsafter he and a lot of his boon companions went to Mount Stewart and told the people that he was going to tax them.

In 1897 the question was again that of revenue. This time the bait was held out in a different form. He had the assurance ofa favorable consideration of our claims and we were to have an arbitration with the Ottawa Government con- cerning them and taxation was to be swept away forever. known to all that Mr. Peters win on this cry, and immediately started for British Columbia! Thus ended the great arbitration scheme.
