The citizens of Charlottetown are called upon to observe “Clean Up ' Week” from May 25th-80th. If we wish visitors to return to their homes ~ well-pleased with their sojourn here we must have our city looking its best. It is a matter of civic pride to repair and paint our homes, to I make our lawns and property attractive, and to keep our streets and g driveways clean, but it is also a matter of health to do so. Operations in different branch- es of the canning industry may be affected more or less by war con- ditions which at present cannot be foreseen but, at the worst. there will be quite a wide variety of canned fish and shellfish avail- able from Canadian plants for Can- adian consumers. No Dominion housewife should experience great difficulty in filling her needs.

Most of these canned sea foods can be used in any number of dif- ferent flsh dishes. There are a great many recipes which have canned sea foods as their prin- cipal constituent. As a matter of fact, the Dominion Department of Fisheries has available for Canad- ian housewives a special booklet containing many such recipes, tried and tested and recommended by members of the departmenvs lecturer-demonstrator staff. 0m! of these books may be obtained, free of charge, by any woman upon request They contain many valu- able and helpful suggestions as to sewing fish foods.

Taken all in all, the reserving of canned salmon and sea herring stocks for Britain need not disturb Canadian housewives a great deal. True, they may not be able to secure what they formerly looked upon as a regular standby in household diet, but there is a bright side to the picture, too. “lhe domestic shortage of canned sal- mon and canned sea herring will be the means of bringing to many Canadian tables canned sea foods not formerly tried, and the introduction of many Canadians to varieties of fish foods they will agree have been too long over- looked.
