Another Short Line Meeting. Orrawa, Feb. 24,

A meeting of the Conservative members of the House of Commons from New Bruns- wick and Nova Scotia was held yesterday, Sir Adams Archibald presiding, the Short Line Railway being the immediate subject for which the meeting was convened. The question was fully discussed and a com mittee consisting of Messrs. Kenny, Wood and Temple was appointed to inter- view the Government and urge the early completion of the Harvey, Fredericton and Salisbury link The fast Atlantic mal service was discussed and the meeting was unanimously of opinion that in awarding a new contract the terminal points should be within the Dominion.

The Evening Echo announces that a well- known supporter of the Government, re presenting a rural constituency, has been read out of the ranks of the supporters of the Government and into the ranks of the Opposition. This refers to Mr. McCoy, member for Shelburne. He severely criti @zed the Government for not including fishermen in the Government's state in- surance scheme as well as mariners. In reply, Premier Fielding intimated he would hereafter treat Mr. McCoy as any other member ol the Opposition. Mr. McColl, of Pictou, another Government supporter, is also an exasperating thorn in the side of the Opposition.

Four New States.

The news of the signing by the President of the bill making four new States was re- ceived in Minnesota with great satisfaction, and a telegram from Helena that all Mon- tana is celebrating, but Dakota is really beside itself with delight. From every hamlet large enough to have a telegraph office come despatches expressive of a state of jubilation bordering on insanity.
