All the military, judicial, ecclesiastical scientific and charitable societies partici- pated.

The funeral procession left the parlia- ment buildings at one o'clock. The pall- bearers were the fourteen Cabinet Minis- ters. ‘The body was borne to the hearse by six Dominion policemen. Among those present were Lord Stanley and his staff. Maj.-Gen. Herbert, Gov. Angers of Que- bec, Gov. Daly of Nova Scotia, the Speaker of the Senate in his robes of office, attended by the Sergeant at Arms bearing the mace, the Senators, the Speaker of the House of Commonsin his robes of uthce, preceded by the mace-hearer, mem- bers of the House of Commons, judges in their official robes, civil service ctticials, members of the bar societies, representa- tives of the Grand Trunk and C. P. R., the mayers and aldermen of Montreal and Kingston, boards of trade, consular corps, political clubs, ete.

At St. Alban’s Church the service was fully choraland highly impressive. The Church was beautifully draped and the altar was decorated with exquisite flowers.

Soon after leaving the church, while on Rileau Street, a severe thunder storm came on, accompanied with torrents of rain.

The hearse wos preceded by two large cars laden with the flora! tributes.

The city is crowded with visitors.

The Premier and Solicitor-General of New Brunswick were also at the funeral,

A London despatch says : ‘‘The death of SirJohn Macdonald and the political re- sults tou Canada likely to atise from the sad event are still the general topic of conver- sation in political, colonial and city circles. Nothing more remarkable has ever been witnessed in London than the universal re- spect shown for the deceased statesman. From every corner of the empire come tributes of respect to his memory. This culminated in the decision to hold a memo- rial service in Westminster Abbey, which is considered to be one of the highest hon- ors an Englishman can ever hope to attain.

A requisition was presented to the Dean of Westininsier signed by all the leading ministers, and the leaders of both political parties in the Imperial Parliament, the Marquis of Lorne, Sir Charles Tupper, Sir Alexander Galt, Hon. Charles C. Colby and others. The memorialists pointed out that they desired co pay a last tribute of respect to one who has rendered so many services to the Dominion of Canada and the Empire in general and asked that their petition be granted.

The dean promptly assentedand it was decided that the services should be held on Friday morning, when all the Imperial Cabinet Ministers and members of Parlia- ment, who are able to attend, will be pres- ent, together with all the Canadians and other colonists at present in London.

It is expected that the service will be very grand and impressive, and that the dean himself will officiate. z

Lord Salisbury paid a most graceful tribute to Sir Jchn Macdonald in the House of Lords, which has much gratified Canadians at present in the city and cannot fail to be appreciated all over the Dominion. In the course of bis remarks Lord Salisbnry said that Sir John Macdonald was as great & constitutional statesman as any nation bad

The funeral train with mourning trap- pings dripping with rain, pulled out of the station at 4 30 p. m., and at all the stations along the route crewds were in waiting to see the last of the Chief they all loved s0 well. At many stations the train made stops.

On arrival at Kingston the body was car- ried from the train by eight bearers (Do- minion police) through two lines of **A Battery to the City Hall, and there placed on a magnificent catafalque. A guard of honor of Royal Military Oadets was placed on duly.

The body will lie in state there until noon to-day and will be interred this afternoon at two o'clock.
