| Mr. Marquis Deacon has completed his lcontract on Dunk River Bridge to the lentire satisfaction of the Commissioner of Public Works and the public generally. | This work is looked upon as being the best job of the kind ever done on the Island.
One day last summer, Master Basil Kelly, | son of Judge Kelly, of this town, was fish- ing in Green’s Brook, when he hooked a ‘trout which succeeded in getting away with the hook and part of the casting line. Last week he was again fishing in the same brook when he hooked the same fish and safely landed him, last year’s hook and line being still attached. The cvincidences are remark- able—the same brook, same trout, and same boy.
A stallion race open to all comers will take place on Somerset Driving Park on 13th August next. Mr. O'Ronaghan expects all owners of fast |horses to bring them along and show their speed.

A genuine French band, of six pieces, paraded our streets yesterday. The father sang and hobbled around collecting certs, the mother and eldest daughter played accordeons, a younger girl squawked ‘‘Peek- a-boo,” a toddler aged about two, gathered cents in a tin mung, and a baby sat in « carriage prepared to squawk also cn the faintest provocation. Yesterday there was launched from the shipvard of Mr. Jobn Ramsay, in this town, a foar-masted barkentine, built for Messrs. J. W. and John Richards, of Bide- ferd.
