ready for fall rem

Students returning to campus this term will find the new Chaplaincy Services ensconced in a new home; the Chaplaincy/ Centre is now established in the former Book Storef The $25,000 renovation job, which includes furnishings, is being carried out by the Trades Section‘of the University's Physical Plant. The main area which has a permanent dies 'for church services is adapt~ able for meetings and other campus gatherings. Designed to meet the needs of the Chaplaince the Centre also includes offices, a medit- ation room and a kitchenette.

ance of a Canada Works Grant of $6500., are currently at

work to create religious art works for.the new Centre. Tracy Bredo, a Silversmith, is designing a tabernacle 8 crucifix; Carol MacKinnon, a worker in wood, will create the altar, and a cross for the Centre's exterior; peggy Trainor is weaving an altar cover, and a tapestry to hang as a backdrop to the altar; artist Dianne Cripps will create a mural in a religious theme. All are under the supervision of

Ann Marie Wills, whose ceramics will include a vigil light, baptismal font, chalice 8 paten. These’works are being executed at the School of Visual Arts, Holland College.

Student Services , what they do for «you

Last week I heard someone remark that if the Student Union were to gain control of the new .student emergency fund, then Student Services would only be responsible for providing I.D's. If you care to look into this a little farther however, you may be quite surprised by just how many services these people do provide.

If you have ever gone to the Manpower Office for a job or to the Health ~ Centre with a cold you have been catered to by functions of Student Services. If you have at- tended any of the ‘ecumenical programs or were ever a freshman who took part in the Orientation program, those opportunities were pos— sible by Student Services. If you live in residence your proctors and head residents are also provided by this group.

Student Services however provides much more than this. Career planning, help with-course selection the reading lab, study habits development, personal - problem assistance, schblarship and'financial ‘aid information, off campus housing, on campus housing, testing, overseas student organizations, in-’ formation and providing_ I.D's are just some of the fields that Student Services can give you help in. In ~addition they provide a

Personal Awareness Program, assistance to mature students, Grade 11 entrants, and Centen— nial Scholars, and are an adviser plus providing services for the University Day Care Centre. '

.Student sarvices is a response to all the needs of students in the nonfacadgnic world. That does not exclude academics but it is the only department responsible for the personal develop- ment of the Student. It ~is an entity in itself in that needs can be met right there, and if they are unable to help they know where to find someone who will.

The offices of Student ' services can be found on the ground floor of Main building. In these offices you will find Jim Griffith, the director of Student Services. Jack Blanchard, director of student councel— ling, Marion Basha, Dean of Women, and Rev. Ron Evans and Father Brendan Magannety, Chaplains, will also be there to help you. they are usually to be found in their offices but they do also have a few off-campus functions. For sometime now they have been conductin High ' School visitations and

thus establishing an on-campus contact for

I in-coming students.

The important thing for the student is to take advantage of these many and varied services.
