Loxpex, August 29,—The inexplicable delay in forwarding telegrams from the Chinese capital continues. There is no confirmation from aay source of the re- port of an advance northward. from Pekin. On thecontrary the movement borthward to clear the country and to ineare free communication with Taku is apparently in progres.

The Powers as late as August 21 were still unable to agree as to how to deal with Pekin itself, the Japanese and Rus- sians being at variance as to whether the Imperial Palace ehould be destroyed. Sickness and death have beeo at work, and there are vacancies waiting tote filled. The total amount raised during the year for foreign missions was $20,884.59, of which $3,900 was con~ tributed by J. W. Barse, and $2,000 by friends in Sydney. The amount contris buted by Nova Scotia churches, $2,687.14; New Branewick and Prince Edward Is. land churche~, $1,524,83; special pledges at the convention, $1,431.52. The legacies during the vear amounted to $983.80.

Total receipts, $20,844,59; expenditures $19,875.31; deficit, $2§389,12; total, $22,~ 264.43. This leaves a deficit of $1,419 84. At the conclusion of this report, Mr Manning announced that he had received a message from the Woman’s Missionary Union, lately in session at Windsor, that they had voted $1,450to the Foreign Mission Board. This more than covers the deficit.

At the afternoon session Mr Manning reported on moneys received from the churches of New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island as follows: Total receipts, $6,252.79; amount contributed by c= mav’s Missionary and Aid Sesiety, $3,- 928.16; total, $9,100,%4
