FIRST SCENE.

Oh eure we’)] lorg remember The glorious eighth of May, When the Gordon’s swore by all the gods The Farquharson’s they’d elav, For how they schemed and pletted And pillaged all the the land, Till freeborn men no longer Such tyranny could stand.

The time was named, the meeting set In a big stone house up town,

And at the hour the factions met To knock each other down ;

The gentlemen and ladies, too, Rusbed in to view the scene,

For all the town and country knew There’d be wigs upon the green.

There stood the Gordons like a wall When time was called at four, And never in that dingy hall Was such a wild uproar ; The poor Grits quaked and held their breath And glowered in terror ronn’, With not a sonl ’tween them and death Bat Mister Speaker’s gown.

Bat Moses! What a racket, What runing to and fro, When like a Bobs or Buller, “Tn walked brave little Joe; The Premier turned white, black and blue, And swore and tore his hair, While Kruger bold, from Souris, ® Fainted stone dead in his chair.
