The Canadian Pacific Railwey last week handled a shipment of 1,500,000 pounds of canned beef from Kansas City for the Japauese army and navy. The first ship- ment was made in a special train of twenty cars, over the Chicago Great Western Railroad. At St. Panl the cargo was transferred to tne Canadian Pacific for Vaneouyer, whence it goes by ateamer to Naga+aki.

The theory advarced by some of the railroad people that the embankment of the New York Central railroad, where the state express was thrown into the river on Sunday, was blown out with dynamite by train wreckere, is given littleor no cred- ence by the people of the surrounding couotry. The train wrecking idea is al- most universally econted, and the popular explauation of the cause of the disaster is that it was simply a“ washout, ’of the kind so common to railroade that are built on made ground alongside of large streams of water. -
