Qvexn's Bretupay Races.—The Times announces that races under the manage- ment of Mr. Geo. McSweeney will be held on the Moncton Driving Park on the Queen's Birthday. The events will consist of a 2.40 class, gents’ driving race and a bicycle race. A purse of $100 will be offer- ed in the 2.40 race and a $75 purse in the gents’ driving race. Istaxpers at McGrit.~ We have receiv- ed the official report of the recent examin- ations at McGill College, Montreal, and are pleased to see by it that the students from the Island distinguished themselves, as usual. Among the graduates in applied science were Messrs. James A. Macphail, Orwell, who won the Stanley silver medal and honors in structures, thermody- namics, designing and geodesy; an¢ Thomas M. Macleod, Georgetown, honors in thermodynamics. Among those who took the degree of B. Sc. were Messrs. Macphail snd Macleod in civil engineering, and Messrs. R. C. Holman, Summerside, and L. Simpson, Cavendish, in mechanical engineering. Mesers. H. H. Shaw, Brackley Point, and C. H. B. Longworth, Charlottetown, passed the wesional examinatioa in electrical en- gineering, ond W. M. Scott, Char- tttetown, in mechanical engineering. Mr. Michael E. Griffia, of Georgetown (second year), passed the sessional eXamination in electrical and mechanical engineering; and Mr. Lester W. Gili, of York (first year), also

the sesssonal examination in engineer- og. Mr, Griffia won the Garth prize for smith work; and Mr. Gill captured a prize in descriptive geometry, and stood equal with McDougall, of Quebec, in the competition for the Fleet prize in wood work, open to first year students. Mr. McPhail and Mr. Louis Greeaberg, the latter of Montreal, were equal for the British Association Exhibition of $50, and Mr. Macphail won the Peterson prize for summer report, these prizes being awarded at the examinations at the opening of the sex. sion.

St. Louis, May 3, All Monday night the river steadily rose almost an inch an hour. Yesterday morning the swell touched danger line, thirty two feet. The current was runing swiftly. The heavy ewell is causing great anxiety to the cwners of warehouses and stores on the east side of the river. Squstters «n the low lands were driven out of their cabins by the water’s pouring over the floors. Experienced and conservative river mena predict that the flood will exceed that of last year. Reports show that all rivers in Southern Missouri, Arkansas, Southern _Iilinois, Kentucky and Tennessee are on the rampage, pouring heavy volumes of water mto Mississippi. Railroad bridges in Arkansas are washed away, stopping travel. Advices from Southern Missouri and northeastern Arkan- sas are to the effect that the flood in the White and Black Rivers is now doving great damage to all kinds of property. Ottawa, May 3.

The Department of Agriculture has received telegrams stating that the flocd in the Red River Valley of Mavitoba and Minnesota is the worst known for many years, Vast areas are under water.

Damaged by Fire.

Moncton, May 3. A fire broke out in the attic of the Buc- touche and Moncton railway station yester- day and damaged the roof. The building was flooded by water and rendered unin- habitable for some time.

Artillery Competiton.

Orrawa, May 3. A project is on foot for a team of British Columbia artillerymen taking part in the an- nual competitions for garrison batteries at Halifax in August.
