Population of the Earth.

| The population of the globe on which we

dwell is an interesting subj-ct to every intelligent reader. Behm & Wagner pub- lish periodically a statement giving parti- culars on the topic. According to a new ‘edition of their publication the total popu- | lation of the glebe is estimated at 1,433,- /887,500. This is a most unexpected lre-ult, as the recent censuses of all the principal netionalities show an increase of about thitty-two millions over the previous ‘numbers, The difference arises from the fact that the previous esimate of the popu- lation of the Chinese Empire was far 100 hiph. <A migid scrutiny of the Celestial returis shows greatiy reduced numbers, the population being about 370,000,000 ifste. d of 480,000,000.
