‘* BARRISTER,” which was foaled in 1878, was exbibited at many of the leading Shows in the Old Country, and never left the ring without a ribbon, Heon this side has com- peted in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and State of Maine, and was always placed first, At our Provincial Exhibitions he has never been beaten, excepting by ‘Lucky Lad.” His stock is more favorably kuown in the Maritime Provinces and State of Maine, both az good workers and prize winners than eny other horse of the draught breed.

‘LUCKY LAD” was foal d in 1884, and

was a short leet horse iat the great Glasgow Y | Spring Stallion Show, in March, 1887. He entered the ring with no less than 72 of tle best 3-year-old horses of Scotiaud, and was one of twelve left in the circle from which the winner was selected. He is a very stylish, active h se, and as near faultless in confor- (mation as any big horse to be found. He has ' been shown tw ice at our Provincial Exhibi- tion and was placed first each time. His progeny took first prize at Charlottetown as | foal at foot, at Exhibition, October, 1888, and tirst prize as yearling and second prize as weanling at KE xhibition held in Octob>r last.

Bears Kitiep.—At St. Margarete’s Bay, N.5S., on Friday last, A. Boutillier, G. Jobn- stone and C, Ryan succeeded in killing four bears and captuiing two alive. The men were in the woods lumbering When they came across a family of bears, two old oncs and four cubs. The dogs succeede’ in rooting the animals from their dens and the firing began. Boutilier and Ryan shot one of the old bears, and Johnstone laid low two of the young ones, The other two cubs were cap- tured, Frid: ay evening the cubs were being hawked about the city seeking purchasers. The men will get $16 for the snouts of the dead bears. The heaviest of the anima's was a regular Jumbo, tipping the scoles at 508 pounds. The skins of the two old bears were sold to an officer.
