Sm,--In your isaue of the 3th. instant, appeared a communication, purporting to have been written in Charlottetown, eap- tioned ‘.Druakenness in King’s” which, in justice to the people of King’s demands a promptdenial. The writer with pardonable pride boasts of the extinguisher, put upon rum selling in the city, and laments over the amount of drunkenness he witnessed in Georgetown on the 3rd idst. By omitting te state that. the 3rd was Exhibition day, the writer leaves the public to infer that such is the case every day, and in the same adroit manner asserts that this deplorable atate Of affairs is due to the laxity of In- speetor Kearney. In subject I beg to in- form your correspondent, and others he may have misled, that the sale of spirituons liquors in Georgetown, and this County in general, is reduced to a minimum at pre- sent, and cannot be compared to that of the western Counties. It is true there were some signs of intoxication in George- town on Exhibition day, but it must not be inferred from this that drunkenness, on ordinary oceasions, is on the inerease, or even perceptible; nor is it a fact that In- spector Kearney is derelict in his duty. { am in a position to know that that offcial is leaving no stone unturned to bring offend- ers to justice, and from all | car hear he is censidsredthe right man in the right place your correspondent’s opinion te the con- trary notwithstanding. Judging from the tone of your correspondénts remarks, and the tenor of one or two other letters on the same topic, I am inclined to think that the writer must be a disappoiated candidate for Mr. Kearney’s position, who would doubtless deal summarily with him if it Iay in his power. It would, however, be more prudent for correspondeats not to inflict such a sweeping condemnation upon the inhabitants of a whole County in order to be revenged upon ono individual.

Apart from the symptoms of inteimper- ance visible in Georgetown on Exhibition Day, there is scarcely such a thing as drunkenness known in King’s County. Even on that day there war hardly a man from any part of the country, drunk or sober, to he seen in the town at eight o'clock in the evening. So much for the veracity of your correspondent.
