regret that Master Eddie Leahy, one of the aliar boys in St. Dunstan’s Cathedral, met with a psinfal accident yesterday after- noon. While arranging some of the lights ou the altar he slipped and fell from one of the top arches to the floor, ‘cutting his head eo badly that several stitches had to ve pat in. The little fellow suffered severely from the pain all last night, but today, it is pleasing to hear, he isa good deal easier.

Sir,—I wish to know how far the police of this city are justified in beating, clubbing and otherwise inhumanly treating an in- toxicated person whom they are trying to arreat. Isine line drawn anywhere, and if so, where? Has a drunken man no rights whatever, and ie he to be -@. upon aod have bis features so battered beaten and bruised by these officers, that hie movt intimate friends would sot know him? There are pertinent questions which many of the citizens of Charlottetown would like to have answered.
Exhbib t ons of brutality in cases of arreat are of such frequent occurence that the people of this city have ceased to be shock- ed by them ; but oecasionally these guar- dian ange’s of ours perpetrate am act of such unwarranted cruelty that people are com-~ pelled to stop and think; and ark them- selves the qrestion where is it going to end? Are these persons whom we pay to yuard the welfare of the city be allowed to commit wore crimes than they eupress ? There arecevcral cases fresh in the minde of the people to which I will allude one is the case of a man named Clark who was taken to the Hospital) and from thence to the burying ground. Another isthe case of the breaking of the plate glass window in the McLeod building for which the city iv likely to have io pay. Ou Sunday last a young lad who was intoxicated was attacked by two policemen and throw dowuon the hard frozen ground where they proceeded to amnre themselves by blacking his ever, smashing his mouth and tearing the skin of bis face, and finally when they had the life pearly knocked out of bim they hand cuffed him and locked him up. ©ur pres- ent poliee force are jnst ag usless and just a® great a nuisance us our corver-loafers, with this in favor ofthe corner loafers that we don’t have topay them a selary.
